Fraud Investigations

Morris Forensic is experienced in matters where claims have been made against businesses and individuals alleging fraud and misappropriation of monies, negligent accounting practices and procedures and corporate crime.

Our certified fraud examiners (ACFE) and forensic accounting specialists (CAANZ) undertake a range of investigation services, including:

  • Investigations into asset misappropriation and financial statement fraud.
  • Reconstruction and analysis of accounting records, including tracing the flow of funds within complex corporate structures.
  • Proceeds of crime investigations requiring an analysis of how funds have been used by the defendant(s).
  • External reporting for law enforcement, insurance recovery and civil litigation purposes.
  • Witness evidence.
  • Fraud prevention advice, including advice relating to internal controls and fraud policies and procedures.
  • Assessment of loss and damage arising from fraud.

Specific engagements have included:

  • Investigation into actions of employees at numerous small to medium sized private businesses, one of which led to the uncovering of one of South Australia’s largest frauds.
  • Investigation of alleged misappropriation of monies from government funded First Nation, DSS and NDIS programs.
  • Investigation of local medical practice involving an international skimming scheme involving AliPay and WeChat payment systems.
  • Identification of material accounting misstatements and audit failures and restatement of financial statements for potential accountant, auditor and director negligence action.
  • Investigation of the sources of funds used to acquire certain real estate in proceeds of crime proceedings.
  • Investigation of alleged misconduct by board members and CEOs, including the misuse of corporate credit cards, the failure to follow the appropriate level of delegations and allegations of bullying and harassment.
  • Advisory engagements relating to the effectiveness of organisations’ internal controls at preventing and detecting fraud and error.
